WHO WE ARE
ARTES-JUSTECO is a Costa Rican nonprofit civil association founded in May 2021 by a group of professionals concerned about the disparate effects of the environmental crisis and climate change and the lack of recognition of this disparity in the design of policies to combat these global problems.
WHAT WE DO
Environmental and climate justice
ARTES-JUSTECO promotes environmental justice and equity through conservation and sustainable use of our ecosystems. It embraces an approach of integral ecology, social and ecological transformation, environmental justice, and recognition of the rights of nature. It focuses its activities particularly on the Central American region.
Therefore, it promotes the application of legal measures in the areas of the environment and society at the national, regional, and international levels, in a way that guarantees the democratization of environmental space, both terrestrial and marine. It maintains that such democratization is an indispensable means to overcome the global environmental crisis, defend human rights, and achieve sufficient livelihoods with adequate human development indices for urban and rural communities.
She works in the areas of Environmental, Marine, and Energy Law, Ecological Economics, Blue Economy, Political Ecology, Environmental Management, and other matters related to the sustainability of the relationship between humans and urban and rural marine and terrestrial ecosystems, supporting associations, governmental and non-governmental institutions, and communities at large. She also promotes the regeneration or restoration of these ecosystems as part of the rights of nature that also benefit our society.
